We were requested to undertake the installation of a new footbridge that went over Bulmer Beck, near Castle Howard as shown on the map for one of our clients. The bridge was to be installed as the previous one had collapsed and been washed away during the floods earlier that year.
Stage One
The area was firstly flailed out, removing overgrown grass and any vegetation within the working area. This provides better visibility and a safer working environment.
Stage Two
Excavating the embankments to create a safe working zone for carrying out the timber piling. The piles are driven into the side of the beck to stabilise the banks and stop them from falling into or narrowing the watercourse. Once the piles are in place, the soil/clay is backfilled at a 45-degree angle. These works were carried out to the client’s specifications.
Stage Three
The next step was to measure up for the bases of the bridge and install them. We did this by pouring concrete into wooden frames we had made and leaving them to set.
Stage Four
Constructing the bridge. We pieced together the bridge after moving it from the client’s depot to site.
Stage Five
Moving the bridge into position using an excavator with the correct lifting apparatus and levelling it up with the marks for it to sit on.
Stage Six
The bridge is placed and bolted into position, with the rest of the bridge constructed when in position.
Stage Seven
Construct the ramps using locally sourced stone and rocks for the walling after putting down a base foundation, finished off with tarmac for a smooth finish.
