Watercourse Management

We provide expertise in watercourse management with over 50 years experience including maintenance (which includes flailing, mowing and de-silting the watercourse) We also carry out reconstruction of banks, piling to stabilise banks, re-instating ditch bottoms after being undermined or over dredged, re-instating existing headwalls and constructing new ones. We also construct bridges over watercourses. All members of staff are certified to work in and around water as well as being trained to use the machinery we use.

We also instate new watercourses, instate flood banks and defences, dredge lake and ponds, create and construct new ponds or lakes and clear watercourses of debris or flood debris.

Watercourse Management -02 (1)

Piling

Piling is a method of securing and reinforcing watercourses to prevent erosion and flooding. We do this by either interlocking steel sheet piles or timber piles to create a barrier and retain soil to prevent the bank from collapsing into the water.

Ditch and Embankment Mowing

Typically done between mid July and February involving the use of flail mowers to maintain vegetation on slopes and ditches. It helps with flood management, drainage and maintaining diverse vegetation structures. We have specialised flail arm mowers with reaches of up to nine metres to tackle most embankments and ditches. For those steeper embankments and bankings we have a remote control flail to prioritise safety and minimise risk for operators.

Ditching

Ditching a watercourse, or undertaking any work on or near it, requires careful planning and adherence to regulations. We must be mindful of potential impacts on the environment and downstream landowners.

With experienced operators and the use of biodegradable oils and fuels we can do just that.

Headwall Installation

A headwall is a precast concrete retaining wall which is installed at an inlet or outlet of a stormwater pipe or culvert. They serve to control water flow, prevent erosion and stabilise embankments.

Flood Defences

These are designed to protect areas from flooding and can include natural features or man made structures. These structures can be used to prevent flooding, control the extent of flooding or manage flood water.

Drainage-4

Land Drainage

Is the process of removing excess water from land, often using underground perforated pipes or a network of ditches and channels. We have over fifty years experience in Land Drainage.

Ian Thornton – Chief Executive
Morrisons have been involved with my firm since the late 1970s,
providing maintenance to my farm. In the late 1980s they took over the
flailing operation for Claro IDB and cleared up many drains that had not
been properly maintained during the preceding years, providing an
excellent service.
Their business has grown dramatically in size to date. They offer an
exemplary bespoke personal service, and no job is too small. I wish
them well in continuing their service in the future.
Nathan Culpan – York Consortium of Drainage Boards

The York Consortium of Internal Drainage Boards have engaged Adrian Morrison and son as sub-contractors who have over the past 8 years assisted in delivering The Boards vital flood defence works including but not exhaustive of the following-

  • Flail mowing of watercourse vegetation.
  • Channel maintenance works including de-silting to timber piling and reprofiling of embankments.
  • Tree cutting utilising excavator mounted hydraulic tree shear.
  • Construction of bridges and general maintenance of outfall structures.
  • Plant transport.

Adrian Morrison and Son's team run with a can do attitude towards all work no job too big or small and being adaptive to undertake a range of different types of work. It is this work ethic that keeps this company in high regard to The Board and highly commendable for future work.

Brigadier RJS Wardle OBE, DL
I would like to take this opportunity to show appreciation for the dredging operation at Bellwood Estate. The job was completed to our entire satisfaction. The quote was competitive, the pre work consultation was considerate and timely. The work started and completed on time. The operation was well planned using the land features well. This has meant that we had minimal disruption. The specialist pumping gear did exactly the job that was required. In the lake the machinery was well directed, there was no time wasting and the sides and bottom of the lake were beautifully finished off. The team was well led by the team leader, who was polite and efficient. A very good job, we were pleased that Geoff Brown MD of Ripon Farm Services recommended Adrian Morrison and Son.
